Guided private tours in the enchanting Greek habitats

The name Falakro translates from Greek as "Bald Mountain" – and from a distance, its treeless upper slopes may indeed appear stark and barren. Yet this impression is deceptive. Falakro is the southernmost outlier of the Rhodope Mountains and harbours exceptional biodiversity. The mountain encompasses a mosaic of habitats including beech woodlands, coniferous forests, and traditionally grazed subalpine meadows.

Towering above the city of Drama at 2,232 metres, Mount Falakro is of outstanding botanical and zoological importance. It is a biogeographical crossroads, where northern and southern species reach the limits of their respective ranges – some at their southernmost distribution, others at their northernmost extent.

In spring, the mountain bursts into life with spectacular wildflower displays and sweeping vistas. Join us in exploring this vibrant floral landscape, where we may encounter species such as: Fritillaria drenovskii, Pulsatilla halleri, Saxifraga sempervivum and S. ferdinandi-coburgi, Gentiana verna, Pedicularis friderici-augusti, Androsace villosa, Viola perinensis, Dactylorhiza sambucina, Orchis mascula...and numerous other wild orchids and alpine taxa.

This botanically rich mountain landscape offers not only rare and endemic species, but also a profound sense of ecological transition and natural beauty
